Antibiotics are sometime essential but are potentially dangerous drugs. They are prescribed too readily and often for viral infections which they do not treat. They can be lethal if given for a virus rather than for a bacterial infection. Given little training in immunology, some doctors give them out for viral infections - not realising the dangers.
I have an example of a doctor attempting to cover up the cause of a fatal bone marrow failure - myelofibrosis caused by penicillin given for a viral infection to my aunt. The local consultant haematologist in Halifax jumped on this saying I was wrong and blood disorders like mine and that of my aunt run in families and are not caused by medical drugs, chemicals and radiation, as I was publishing. My aunt, related to me by marriage only was taken aback by this but I asked her to say nothing until the consultant had buried himself telling everyone I was wrong. Then we sprung it on him that he was wrong because my aunt was not a blood relative. It just goes to show how far some in the medical profession will go to spread untruths about the causes of medical conditions. Parkinson’s, Motor Neurone Disease, MS and countless other common serious conditions can all be caused by medical drugs, chemicals or radiation. Look how long it took to admit the harmful effects of asbestos - over 2,000 years!
The Romans wrote about asbestos workers’ deaths from lung disease.

Comment from Linda Lazarides
As for antibiotics being necessary sometimes, I wonder… I have already shared writings from doctors who worked before the days of antibiotics, who stated that simply keeping a wound clean was enough to prevent infection. There are growing numbers of doctors who agree with the early naturopaths that bacteria are the result of disease, not the cause. They are spontaneously generated from bacterial stem cells within the body, to do what all bacteria do—consume dead matter. So if you test positive for a bacterial infection, it means that the tissues in question are dying due to being severely inflamed, dirty or poisoned, or due to a lack of blood supply. Modern naturopathic doctors are saying that the apparent effectiveness of antibiotics against the symptoms in question is likely due to an anti-inflammatory effect.
The most important treatment is to drain and clean any abscess or remove any dying tissue, leaving a good margin. A modern surgeon who does this is likely to administer antibiotics thereafter, but the surgeons treating the World War I battle-wounded didn’t have antibiotics and apparently didn’t need them. Antiseptics weren’t needed either, and gave worse results than simply keeping the wound clean.
As for internal bacterial infections like those affecting the lungs, the likely cause of the symptoms is inflammation due to inhaling irritants when the integrity (resistance) of the mucous membranes has been compromised by a lack of nutritional protective factors. Vitamin A in the form of retinol is required for mucous membrane integrity. Liver or cod liver oil are really the only good sources of retinol. (Beta carotene in plant foods is not retinol and is not always reliably converted to retinol in the body.) Vitamin C in large doses has very good anti-inflammatory action. So supplementing with these two nutrients is an approach well worth trying before resorting to conventional medical treatment.
As always, seek medical attention if you have severe or persistent symptoms.
